Anyone living in the so-called ‘Südstadt’, the town’s southern quarter, can get to the centre in a matter of minutes, while also being able to relax in the open just outside the door.
Many walkers and joggers enjoy the path around the 15-hectare-large ‘Kiessee’ lake. Children play at the two playgrounds, one of which features a large pirate ship. In summer, rowing boats and pedalos are available for hire, while during cold winters people skate on the lake.
The ‘sporty’ south
An area of more than 100 hectares is available for sport and leisure-time activities at the Sportpark Göttingen. The ‘Jahnstadion’ is the largest sports area in Göttingen with the richest tradition. The ‘Badeparadies Eiswiese’ and Göttingen’s oldest outdoor pool (2007 – 80 years) invite people to enjoy a swim and to relax.
Kindergartens, the Herrmann-Nohl-Grundschule (a primary school) and the Felix-Klein-Gymnasium (ISCED level 3 secondary school) are located in this neighbourhood.
